AI Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential software consultancy based in Nürnberg, and our talent team is looking for an experienced AI Engineer to join their technical practice. This is a hands-on role where you'll design, build, and deploy production-grade AI systems that integrate into complex business applications.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing AI-powered software solutions from initial concept through to stable production deployment
• Building agentic systems with tool calling, multi-step workflows, state management, retry logic, fallback handling, and human-in-the-loop patterns
• Implementing LLM applications including RAG pipelines, structured data extraction, evaluation frameworks, and observability tooling
• Integrating machine learning models and foundation models into existing or new systems, including APIs, data flows, and surrounding infrastructure
• Developing scalable, maintainable, and performant applications on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Identifying practical AI use cases in client projects and honestly assessing when an agent-based approach is appropriate versus a deterministic solution
• Using AI coding tools productively and responsibly in your own development workflow, demonstrating best practices to the team
• Providing technical consulting to clients on architecture, technology choices, and build-versus-buy decisions
• Ensuring code quality through clean code principles, testing, code reviews, and established best practices
• Actively shaping the growing AI competency area by setting topics, sharing knowledge, and establishing standards

What We're Looking For

Our client needs someone with deep software engineering experience who understands both how to work with modern AI models and how to build robust systems around them.

Required qualifications:

• Several years of experience in modern software development, ideally in a full-stack environment
• Practical experience with LLMs and generative AI in real projects: prompting, RAG, embeddings and vector databases, function calling, fine-tuning, or agent frameworks
• Experience with or strong interest in agentic engineering—you've taken an agent beyond demo status or are eager to do so
• Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals and data processing, including model capabilities and limitations
• Cloud development experience with AWS and/or Azure, including CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code
• Strong grasp of clean code, SOLID principles, and software architecture design
• Independent, responsible working style with strong analytical and conceptual abilities
• Ability to develop pragmatic solutions for complex requirements and think beyond immediate constraints
• High motivation and passion for software development in a rapidly evolving technology field
• Very good German language skills (C1 level) in writing and speaking, plus good English

Nice to have (frameworks and languages):

• Angular,.NET, NestJS
• C#, TypeScript, Python
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and/or CDK

You don't need to bring all of these—senior-level experience, learning readiness, and the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and project environments matter most.
