Backend Developer (Java/Spring Boot)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential software organization seeking a Backend Developer to join their fully remote product development team. In this role, you will build reliable backend systems, APIs, services, integrations, and database solutions using Java and Spring Boot.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing clean, maintainable, testable, and efficient backend applications using Java and Spring Boot
• Designing, building, and maintaining secure REST APIs and backend services for frontend applications and other systems
• Developing and maintaining PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, indexes, migrations, and data models using Hibernate/JPA
• Translating product and business requirements into robust backend functionality and well-structured business logic
• Developing and maintaining microservices within distributed backend architectures
• Implementing third-party integrations and internal services based on project requirements
• Ensuring data accuracy, consistency, validation, and correct handling of edge cases
• Writing and maintaining automated tests and collaborating closely with QA engineers
• Taking ownership of assigned backend features from implementation through testing, release, and delivery
• Collaborating with frontend engineers, QA, DevOps, product managers, designers, and other backend developers
• Identifying and communicating unclear requirements, technical risks, dependencies, and potential blockers early
• Participating in code reviews, pull requests, and collaborative development workflows
• Contributing to improving engineering practices, code quality, maintainability, and team processes

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong practical knowledge of modern Java development; experience with Java 21 is preferred
• Hands-on experience building backend applications and services with Spring Boot
• Practical experience with Hibernate/JPA and ORM-based persistence
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL, relational databases, SQL, data modeling, and query performance
• Experience designing, implementing, testing, and consuming RESTful APIs
• Practical experience with automated backend testing
• Comfortable using Git, pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative development workflows
• Familiarity with microservices and distributed systems
• Strong ownership and autonomy, with the ability to manage assigned features independently
• Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into reliable, well-structured backend solutions
• Fluent professional English is required
• Comfortable working remotely and organizing your schedule around required collaboration windows

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with Domain-Driven Design or Event-Driven Architecture
• Familiarity with AWS or another cloud environment, particularly experience with ECS/Fargate
• Experience in fintech, SaaS, HR, payroll, ERP, or complex enterprise platforms
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools
• Spanish language skills, particularly for collaboration with LATAM stakeholders

Location: France (fully remote); must be able to overlap with 9:00 AM–7:00 PM CET collaboration window

Employment type: B2B contract, project-focused engagement currently expected to run through February 2027, standard 40-hour workweek with flexible scheduling
