Senior Machine Learning Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI technology organization seeking a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join their London team. Our client operates at the forefront of applied machine learning, deploying everything from classical supervised models to cutting-edge neural network applications that deliver measurable customer impact.

This is a highly product-focused role where you'll work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, research solutions, and rapidly prototype ML features that ship to production in weeks rather than months.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-value opportunities where machine learning can solve customer problems
• Frame product challenges as ML problems and determine appropriate algorithmic approaches
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and research to deeply understand problem domains
• Research and evaluate algorithms and tools, balancing pragmatism with innovation
• Perform offline evaluation to validate that proposed solutions will work in production
• Collaborate with ML product engineers to bring prototypes to production quickly
• Design experiments, measure impact, and communicate learnings to inform iteration
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering stakeholders across the organization

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3-5 years of applied machine learning experience
• Broad applied ML knowledge across multiple domains
• Practical statistics knowledge including experiment design and handling confounding variables
• Intermediate programming skills
• Strong communication skills, both within technical teams and across disciplines
• Comfort working with ambiguity and evolving requirements
• Advanced education in ML or related field (typically MSc or equivalent)
• Scientific thinking and problem-solving abilities

Bonus qualifications:

• Proven track record shipping ML products to production
• PhD or research environment experience
• Deep expertise in NLP, deep learning, Bayesian methods, reinforcement learning, or clustering
• Strong mathematics or statistics background
• Data visualization skills with tools like matplotlib, SQL, and similar technologies
