Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential gaming technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Account vertical team in Edinburgh. In this role, you will work within empowered, multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex challenges that deliver exceptional experiences for millions of users.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Designing and building stable, performant software using Java, Python, and React on AWS infrastructure
• Taking ownership of product and technology components, becoming a subject matter expert in your domain
• Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following industry standards and best practices
• Actively participating in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews
• Resolving root causes of complex problems and leaving systems better than you found them
• Making pragmatic technical decisions, balancing customer requirements with team needs
• Leading projects that improve team software and processes
• Participating in the on-call support rotation for your organization
• Contributing to the interview process and mentoring other engineers
• Staying current with industry tools, open-source frameworks, and market standards

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks candidates with:

• A degree in Computer Science or related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
• Proven experience writing distributed, highly scalable backend systems and APIs using Java, Python, or similar languages
• Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
• Solid grasp of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, and concurrency handling
• Knowledge of release process best practices for APIs and services in production environments
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS
• Familiarity with DevOps concepts including Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
• Comfort working with frontend technologies, particularly React
• Experience integrating testing concepts and best practices throughout the software development lifecycle
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
• Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence and software best practices
• A growth mindset with desire to continuously learn and develop your skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change
