(Senior) Product Manager Smart Metering & Steering (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential renewable energy technology client in their search for a Product Manager to lead smart metering and grid steering initiatives. This role sits at the intersection of regulatory compliance, product development, and hardware operations—critical to enabling distributed energy resources in Germany's evolving grid landscape.

Our talent team is working directly with the hiring organization to identify candidates who can navigate complex energy regulations and translate them into scalable product requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the internal and external expert on smart metering and steering regulations including §14a EnWG, §9 EEG, §21 EnWG, and §118 Abs. 6 EnWG
• Interpret legal frameworks, VDE FNN requirements, BNetzA rulings, and BDEW Guidelines; participate in industry working groups to help shape future standards
• Define and prioritize product requirements for engineering teams to ensure compliance and performance of AI-driven energy management systems and connected hardware
• Coordinate hardware testing, lab capacity planning, and certification processes for intelligent metering systems and control devices
• Manage relationships with external service providers, distribution system operators, and metering point operators to ensure smooth market communication
• Lead cross-functional projects, define KPIs, monitor performance, and derive optimization measures from field data and customer feedback

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of experience in the energy sector with demonstrated focus on metering and grid steering
• Strong project management capabilities leading cross-functional teams and coordinating with network operators, metering providers, and external partners
• Solid working knowledge of §14a EnWG and grid-oriented control frameworks, plus familiarity with MsbG, §9 EEG, §21 EnWG, and §118 Abs. 6 EnWG
• Understanding of technical standards, market communication processes, and smart metering infrastructure
• Experience coordinating hardware testing, lab setups, or certification processes (particularly for grid control devices) is highly valued
• Analytical and structured approach to defining KPIs and using data to drive product decisions
• Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable navigating ambiguity and regulatory change
• Excellent written and spoken German (essential) and English—this role requires heavy regulatory and partner interaction in German
