CBO – Chief Business Officer (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a rapidly growing consumer brand in the direct-to-consumer and e-commerce space, headquartered in Hamburg. Our client seeks a seasoned commercial leader to build and own new revenue streams beyond their established core business. This is a genuine P&L ownership role reporting directly to the founders, with full mandate to build teams, channels, and strategic partnerships from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Launch and scale marketplace channels (Amazon EU, other European platforms, social commerce) from zero—selecting which channels to enter, negotiating commercial terms, building internal or agency operations, and driving profitability while protecting brand integrity and pricing architecture
• Develop and own the B2B sales function, targeting corporate clients, employee benefit platforms, institutional buyers, and framework agreements with larger organizations—building the commercial structure and capturing untapped revenue potential
• Establish strategic partnerships, co-branding opportunities, and licensing models that expand brand reach into new categories or markets, evaluating fit and long-term value
• Lead corporate development initiatives including fundraising, M&A processes, due diligence, and management of external advisors—preparing and executing strategic transactions
• Negotiate high-stakes contracts across sourcing (seven-figure volumes), logistics, carriers, real estate, and strategic service providers with full executive backing
• Manage multiple P&Ls, steering decisions based on contribution margin, cash flow, and rigorous financial analysis
• Build your own teams once you have proven the business model—operating in a results-driven, low-bureaucracy environment

What We're Looking For

• Several years in commercial leadership roles within consumer goods, D2C, e-commerce, or retail environments
• Proven track record of building a new sales channel or business unit from zero to profitability—you can cite the numbers
• Marketplace experience strongly preferred: deep understanding of economics on Amazon and similar platforms (fee structures, returns, advertising costs, pricing dynamics)
• Demonstrated success negotiating contracts with significant commercial impact—outcomes, not just anecdotes
• Experience in fundraising, equity transactions, or M&A processes
• Strong financial acumen: you steer by contribution margin and cash flow, making data-driven decisions
• Hands-on builder mentality—you execute first, then scale your team; you thrive where results matter more than process
• Fluency in German and English for negotiation and executive communication
• Entrepreneurial drive, decisiveness, and leadership presence
