Head of Data & Business Intelligence (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential direct-to-consumer footwear company experiencing rapid growth in the German market. Our client is looking for a Head of Data & Business Intelligence to build their data function from the ground up and transform data infrastructure into a strategic asset that drives daily decision-making at the executive level.

In this role, you will own the entire data domain with direct reporting to the founders:

• Build and maintain a central data warehouse, connecting all critical sources including e-commerce platforms, paid advertising channels, ERP systems, fulfillment operations, and CRM to create a single source of truth
• Own the complete tracking and attribution setup end-to-end, including server-side tracking, Conversion APIs, and data quality optimization across advertising platforms to maximize measurement accuracy at scale
• Develop the core metrics that drive business decisions: contribution margin by product, channel, and partnership, delivered near real-time rather than weeks after the fact
• Design and build dashboards that executives actually use daily, plus self-service analytics capabilities for cross-functional teams, ensuring critical questions are answered in seconds
• Support purchasing and inventory planning, revenue forecasting, and cohort analysis with models that withstand real-world business conditions
• Initially build pipelines and dashboards hands-on before scaling a team under your leadership
• Choose your own technology stack and roadmap with full ownership

What We're Looking For

• Multiple years of experience in data or business intelligence roles within e-commerce or D2C environments, ideally where significant advertising budgets were involved
• Proven track record building or significantly owning a modern data stack (data warehouse, ELT pipelines, BI tools) with the ability to justify technology choices
• Deep understanding of tracking and attribution in paid social environments: server-side tracking, Conversion APIs, and the limitations of platform attribution models
• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with common BI tools; Python or comparable languages are a plus
• Business-first thinking: contribution margin, customer acquisition cost, and inventory reach are strategic levers to you, not just vocabulary
• Hands-on mindset willing to build initial pipelines and dashboards yourself before team expansion
• Excellent communication skills with non-technical stakeholders, translating ambiguous questions into precise data products
• Strong German or English language skills
• Experience translating data insights into concrete business decisions for founders and leadership teams
