Senior Machine Learning Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization that is transforming how clinical communication happens across a national health system. Our client has built a platform used by thousands of care providers to manage patient demand, automate routine workflows, and improve access to care.

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you'll join a specialized intelligence team responsible for building the ML systems that interpret healthcare requests and power clinical decision-making across multiple product lines. You'll work alongside data scientists, software engineers, clinicians, and product managers in a low-ego, high-impact environment.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical design of ML systems, from data ingestion and training pipelines through to deployment and real-time monitoring in production
• Serve as the primary technical partner to data scientists, translating experimental code into high-quality, extensible library modules and reusable components
• Convert complex clinical and product requirements into efficient computational tasks, making informed build-vs-buy decisions and selecting appropriate ML techniques
• Transform one-off experiments into repeatable platform capabilities that can be adopted by other product teams across the organization
• Ensure AI features are performant, observable, and easy to debug in a high-availability production environment
• Proactively identify and resolve cross-team dependencies as new ML models are rolled out

What We're Looking For

• Extensive experience with diverse ML techniques including Transformer-based NLP, Deep Learning, tree-based methods, and Bayesian modelling, with the judgment to select the right approach for each clinical problem
• Proven track record taking models from Jupyter notebooks to production, managing data versioning, model serving, and everything in between
• Mastery of production-grade languages such as Python, C#, or Go, with demonstrated ability to write extensible, modular libraries
• Experience defining both offline metrics (model performance in training) and online metrics (real-world impact on user behavior and outcomes)
• Strong collaborative skills in design and code reviews, with ability to surface erroneous assumptions and identify technical risks like data leakage or hardware constraints before they affect delivery
• Bonus: Experience with regulated data environments (GDPR, HIPAA) and privacy-first techniques
• Bonus: Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Kubernetes) or MLOps platforms (SageMaker, Vertex AI)
• Bonus: Hands-on experience fine-tuning LLMs, prompt engineering, or managing latency and cost trade-offs at scale
