Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential technology organization in Germany for a 3-month contract engagement starting late September 2026. This is a hands-on ML engineering role focused on production infrastructure and cloud-native systems.
You will:
- Build and orchestrate ML pipelines using Kubeflow Pipelines (KFP v2)
- Train ML models on GPU infrastructure and manage GPU resource allocation within Kubernetes environments
- Fine-tune transformer models and large language models for production use cases
- Track experiments and model versions using MLflow
- Develop classical ML models with XGBoost and CatBoost
- Process large-scale datasets using SQL Server and DuckDB
- Build Python-based pipelines, integrations, and tooling with production-grade engineering standards
- Implement CI/CD workflows using GitLab CI, including automated testing and clean code practices
- Work within a secure, zero-trust environment with network policies and restrictive container permissions
What We're Looking For
Must-have skills:
- Hands-on experience with Kubeflow Pipelines, ideally KFP v2
- Proven experience training models on GPU infrastructure
- Practical experience fine-tuning LLMs and transformer models
- Experience with MLflow for experiment tracking and model management
- Strong knowledge of XGBoost, CatBoost, or similar gradient boosting frameworks
- Strong Python engineering skills with a focus on production-quality code
- Solid SQL experience and understanding of large-scale data processing
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and clean code practices
- Production-grade ML/MLOps experience beyond notebook-based experimentation
- Experience working in enterprise or regulated cloud-native environments
- German language proficiency: B2+ required
- English language proficiency: B1+ required
Nice to have:
- Experience with LLM pre-training beyond fine-tuning
- GPU orchestration expertise within Kubernetes
- Experience with zero-trust environments, network policies, and restrictive container rights
- Knowledge of DuckDB
- Experience with modern Python tooling such as uv
Domain expertise in healthcare or billing is not required—you should be comfortable quickly learning new business domains.
