About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential digital services organization seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer to join their interdisciplinary teams in Köln. Our client creates digital solutions with genuine societal impact, working across public sector, healthcare, energy, and other regulated industries. This role offers the opportunity to shape complex applications, portals, and information systems that people actually use.

As a senior designer, you'll take ownership of the complete design process—from strategic vision and design language definition through to final UI implementation. You'll work at the intersection of user research, client requirements, conceptual strength, and visual precision, building and maintaining design systems that serve as the backbone of product development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design process in client projects from vision and design language definition through final UI delivery
  • Create visually and functionally sophisticated user flows and interfaces for complex applications with consistency, accessibility, and implementability
  • Provide strategic consultation to clients and project teams on digital product evolution, combining user perspective with market observation
  • Own design systems throughout their entire lifecycle, ensuring adoption through documentation, contribution guidelines, reviews, and team training
  • Facilitate workshops, moderate stakeholder discussions, and make design decisions comprehensible to non-design audiences
  • Take creative leadership in proposals, pitches, and competitive presentations
  • Deploy AI tools strategically in the design process and share learnings with the team
  • Provide technical leadership for small UX/UI teams in client projects, conducting design reviews, quality assurance, and mentoring colleagues

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in concepting and designing digital products with focus on UX and UI design
  • Completed degree in Communication Design, Interaction Design, Media Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or comparable qualification
  • Substantial experience developing, applying, and evolving design systems with strong quality standards and visual sensibility
  • Confident command of UX methods, designing complex digital applications, and digital accessibility requirements
  • Experience collaborating with development teams in agile environments, moderating workshops, and presenting design solutions to clients and stakeholders
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating your work from problem statement to final interface, including design system experience
  • Excellent German and English language skills, written and spoken

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in regulated sectors such as public sector, healthcare, or energy
  • Experience in technical leadership of small design teams in client projects
  • Art direction experience
  • Practical experience with AI-supported products, design processes, prototyping, or code generation
