About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential digital services organization seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer to join their interdisciplinary teams in Mainz. Our client creates digital solutions with genuine societal impact, working across public sector, healthcare, and regulated industries including energy. This role offers the opportunity to shape complex applications, portals, and information systems that people actually use.
As Senior UI/UX Designer, you'll take ownership of the design process from user research insights through final interface delivery. You'll work at the intersection of customer requirements, user needs, conception, and visual execution—thinking strategically while maintaining exceptional visual precision. Design systems will be central to your work: you'll build them, maintain consistency across products, and ensure successful handoff to development teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the complete design process in client projects, from vision and design language definition through final UI delivery
- Design visually and functionally sophisticated user flows and interfaces for complex applications with consistency, accessibility, and implementability
- Provide strategic consultation to clients and project teams on digital product evolution, combining user perspective with market observation
- Own design systems throughout their entire lifecycle, ensuring team adoption through documentation, contribution rules, reviews, and training
- Conduct client consultations, moderate workshops, and articulate design decisions to non-design stakeholders
- Lead creative direction for proposals and pitches, delivering compelling presentations
- Deploy AI tools strategically within design processes and share learnings with the team
- Provide technical leadership for small UX/UI teams in client projects, driving quality through design reviews and mentoring
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in UX and UI design for digital products
- Completed degree in Communication Design, Interaction Design, Media Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction, or comparable qualification
- Substantial experience developing, applying, and evolving design systems with strong quality standards and visual sensibility
- Confident application of UX methods, designing complex digital applications, and implementing digital accessibility requirements
- Proven collaboration with development teams in agile environments, plus experience moderating workshops and presenting design solutions to clients and stakeholders
- Comprehensive portfolio demonstrating work from problem definition through final interface, including design system experience
- Excellent German and English language skills, written and spoken
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in regulated sectors such as public sector, healthcare, or energy
- Background in technical leadership of small design teams within client projects
- Art direction experience
- Practical experience with AI-supported products, design processes, prototyping, or code generation
