About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential quantum computing organization seeking a Senior Staff Analog Mixed-Signal Design and Modelling Engineer for their Oxford, UK office. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge cryogenic ASICs that control next-generation quantum processors, with a few days per week remote work flexibility.

In this position, you will own the full-chip modelling strategy and top-level integration for specialized integrated circuits operating from room temperature down to a few kelvin. You'll design precision analog blocks and build mixed-abstraction models that combine transistor-level circuits with Verilog-A/AMS and SystemVerilog behavioral blocks, directly supporting our client's advanced quantum computing roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full-chip modelling strategy: define model architecture, abstraction levels, accuracy targets and sign-off criteria across the IC development flow
  • Design analog and mixed-signal blocks including voltage references, DACs, switches, regulators, and clock distribution from specification through schematic design, simulation, layout, and silicon validation
  • Lead top-level chip integration: define block interfaces and specifications, assemble the top level, and run full-chip mixed-signal simulations
  • Develop Verilog-A and Verilog-AMS models of analog blocks and assemble them into a simulatable full-chip representation
  • Build real-number models enabling full-chip simulation in digital verification and regression at practical speeds
  • Derive models from first-principles mathematics: transform transfer functions, Z-parameter networks, or MATLAB analyses into robust Verilog-A with well-behaved tolerances
  • Define and execute model-versus-schematic correlation, maintaining model synchronization with design releases and incorporating measured silicon behavior back into models and block designs
  • Establish and maintain mixed-signal co-simulation and regression infrastructure (Cadence AMS Designer, Xcelium with Spectre)
  • Lead block-level design reviews and mentor engineers on circuit design and modelling best practices
  • Shape design, modelling and verification methodology, standards and sign-off criteria for the IC team

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

  • 10+ years of analog and mixed-signal design and modelling experience
  • Multiple production tape-outs with responsibility for block design and top-level integration, including silicon bring-up and bench characterization
  • Expert transistor-level design of precision analog blocks (references, DACs, regulators, switches, clock distribution) taken through PVT and Monte Carlo analysis, layout and silicon validation
  • Expert proficiency in Verilog-A and Verilog-AMS modelling
  • Strong real-number modelling capabilities
  • Proven track record of designing blocks and models used in production tape-out flows
  • Strong mathematical foundations: linear systems, Laplace and z-domain analysis, network (Z-) parameters, noise and non-linearity
  • Fluency in production Cadence flow: Virtuoso, Spectre, Xcelium and AMS Designer or similar co-simulation environments
  • Experience with parasitic extraction and post-layout sign-off
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog, plus MATLAB or Python/NumPy for analysis and model validation
  • Scripting skills to automate model generation, checking and regression

Highly beneficial:

  • Cryogenic, space or other extreme-environment silicon experience
  • Experience designing beyond foundry model validity using measured device data

The ideal candidate can design a block to specification and model it at appropriate fidelity, derive models from equations and implement them end to end. You should be able to judge what to model and at what abstraction level, align designers, verification and systems engineers on model capabilities and limitations, and contribute effectively within a fast-moving, highly technical team.
