Senior Cloud Engineer

WGU is hiring a Senior Cloud Engineer for our Salt Lake City, UT office, bringing a full-time opportunity for an experienced infrastructure leader. This on-site position plays a crucial role in architecting, implementing, and optimizing the cloud infrastructure that powers our operations.

Role Overview

As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you'll take ownership of designing and maintaining robust, scalable cloud environments that support mission-critical systems. You'll combine deep technical expertise with strategic thinking to solve complex infrastructure challenges, working closely with teams across the organization to ensure our cloud platforms are secure, performant, and cost-effective.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure solutions across production environments
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code templates and automation frameworks
• Optimize cloud resource utilization, performance, and cost efficiency
• Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex infrastructure issues and outages
• Mentor junior engineers and share cloud architecture best practices
• Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams on infrastructure requirements
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for system reliability

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional cloud infrastructure experience
• Deep expertise with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
• Proficiency in infrastructure automation and configuration management tools
• Strong knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and microservices architectures
• Experience designing for security, scalability, and high availability
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent professional experience considered
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities
