Cloud Platform Engineer (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization building a sovereign cloud infrastructure platform in Germany. Our client operates dedicated, self-hosted environments with a focus on digital sovereignty, serving customers in highly regulated sectors including insurance and public sector organizations. This is a greenfield platform engineering role where you'll shape the architecture and operations of a multi-tenant Kubernetes environment built on open-source foundations.

This position is based in Hannover and requires German language proficiency (C1 minimum) and willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve a self-hosted cloud platform based on Kubernetes, delivering isolated tenant environments with full lifecycle management
• Architect highly available multi-cluster environments including networking, storage, load balancing, and authentication components
• Develop and refine tenant isolation concepts ensuring security, performance, and availability requirements are met
• Collaborate with development teams on performance and availability requirements for cluster and tenant architectures
• Implement GitOps workflows using tools like ArgoCD and Fleet for automated deployment and Day 2 operations
• Build Infrastructure as Code using Ansible, Terraform, or comparable tools; implement Policy as Code for security and governance
• Establish platform engineering standards and self-service capabilities for internal development teams
• Support development teams migrating workloads to the cloud platform
• Analyze operational data (monitoring, incidents) to continuously improve stability, security, and performance

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Several years of experience in cloud or platform engineering, container technologies, or infrastructure automation
• Strong Kubernetes expertise, ideally from operating production multi-cluster environments
• Hands-on experience with GitOps workflows (preferably ArgoCD or Fleet) and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
• Fluent German (minimum C1 level) and very good English, both written and spoken
• Willingness to travel for client meetings and visits to other office locations

Preferred:

• Experience with SUSE stack or comparable Kubernetes management platforms
• Knowledge of DevSecOps practices, Policy as Code, or high-availability architectures
• Familiarity with monitoring stacks such as Prometheus and Grafana
• Systems thinking with focus on the bigger picture rather than isolated tickets
• Strong communication skills for engaging with both development teams and customers
• Structured, independent, and solution-oriented working style
