People & Operations Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded climate technology organization in Berlin that is scaling its team and operations. As their People & Operations Manager, you'll build the people systems and workplace culture that support their next phase of growth. You'll report to the CEO and work across a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and commercial professionals.

This is a hands-on role where you'll own hiring, employee experience, HR operations, and office management. You'll have the autonomy to introduce new systems and frameworks while keeping the day-to-day running smoothly.

Responsibilities

People:

• Own end-to-end hiring: craft job descriptions, source candidates, manage communication, and finalize offers and contracts
• Design and deliver onboarding that prepares new hires for day one and offboarding that is organized and respectful
• Develop growth frameworks and salary structures; support annual reviews and compensation cycles
• Monitor team wellbeing through check-ins and surveys, surfacing insights to leadership
• Coordinate team gatherings including standups, all-hands meetings, social events, and annual offsites
• Build the employer brand to attract strong candidates

Operations:

• Select and implement an HR system suitable for the team size; manage migration, training, and ongoing administration
• Manage employee tool stack including licenses, accounts, access, and per-person costs
• Coordinate payroll with tax advisors and employer of record providers; oversee travel expense processes
• Handle German employment contracts, amendments, visa cases, and liaise with legal counsel as needed
• Administer the VSOP program
• Keep the Kreuzberg office welcoming and functional for a hybrid team

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Strong understanding of German employment law, HR best practices, and German administrative procedures
• Excellent written and spoken German and English
• Proven experience building a process, policy, or system from concept to daily use
• Genuine interest in people development and comfort with direct, honest feedback
• Ability to move fluidly between strategic leadership discussions and hands-on execution
• Experience in hiring, office management, and event planning
• Strong organizational skills and consistent follow-through

Nice to Have:

• Experience implementing HR systems such as Personio or HiBob
• Coaching or workshop facilitation background
• Startup experience in organizations with 15 to 50 employees
