About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential text-to-speech technology company seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications to join their distributed team. This role is based in Frankfurt, Germany and offers the opportunity to shape the architecture and user experience of desktop applications used by millions worldwide.

Our client is building accessible, high-performance software that transforms how people consume written content. As a senior engineer on their Windows team, you'll own the full lifecycle of features—from conception through release—while ensuring reliability, performance, and world-class accessibility support.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or related UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and—when needed—C++
• Define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development: code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability
• Drive accessibility efforts by integrating and validating support for accessibility APIs (e.g., Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring screen-reader support, keyboard navigation, focus management, and usability for users with disabilities
• Collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long-term Windows platform roadmap
• Take full ownership of features from conception through maintenance, ensuring quality, reliability, and consistency across releases
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems—proposing robust architectural solutions

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML—ideally with additional experience in native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM)
• Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed code (.NET) and native code
• Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications with emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability
• Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows (e.g., Microsoft UI Automation) and dedication to building accessible, inclusive software
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading, and asynchronous programming
• Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions
• Strong communication skills with ability to articulate tradeoffs, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive consensus
• User-centric mindset focused on building polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences

Preferred:

• Experience with automated UI testing (unit tests, integration tests, UI automation tests) and relevant testing frameworks
• Performance optimization expertise for desktop apps (memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, responsiveness under load)
• Experience with localization/globalization, right-to-left UI support, and internationalization
• Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications
• Previous experience shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop apps
• Demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term, including maintenance, refactoring, and technical debt management
