Engineering manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building next-generation investment infrastructure. Our client powers investment platforms for leading financial institutions and is expanding across Europe. They require an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a product engineering squad and help scale their platform to support growing customer demand.

This is a hybrid role based in London, with flexibility to work remotely but with at least one day per week in the office.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead and develop an inclusive, high-performing engineering squad
• Create an environment of trust, psychological safety, continual learning and constructive challenge
• Own the delivery health of your squad, from priorities and planning through to production readiness, reliability and ongoing maintainability
• Partner with product managers to align the squad's work with customer, commercial, regulatory and platform priorities
• Guide technical decisions and help the team build solutions that are scalable, secure, resilient and well integrated with the wider platform
• Use metrics, feedback and team insight to improve delivery predictability, system reliability and team effectiveness
• Recruit and onboard engineers while contributing to shared engineering practices and collaboration across the organization

What We're Looking For

• Experienced engineering manager who has led teams working within complex product or technology domains
• Strong track record of hiring, onboarding, coaching and developing engineers
• Ability to balance people leadership with delivery accountability while remaining close enough to technology to offer meaningful guidance
• Experience with modern JavaScript and cloud-based technology stacks, including Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, MongoDB, AWS, Lambda and Serverless Framework
• Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively with product managers, engineering leaders and senior stakeholders
• Recent, practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and ability to help teams use them responsibly
• Commitment to building secure, scalable and resilient systems
• Experience in financial services, fintech, investment platforms or another regulated environment is valuable but not required

This role requires: Technical credibility to guide decisions constructively, comfort with changing priorities in a fast-moving environment, and a balance between delivery pace and long-term quality, security and resilience.
