Mien Interpreter

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential language services organization seeking fluent Mien-English interpreters to join their remote team across the United States. This work-from-home role connects you with clients in healthcare, emergency services, government, education, and business sectors—helping break down language barriers for limited-English speakers every day.

As an independent contractor interpreter, you'll handle on-demand phone calls, providing accurate verbal interpretation between Mien and English. You'll receive industry-leading training, interpreter support, and access to advancement opportunities within a certified ASTM and ISO environment.

Responsibilities

• Answer interpreting calls promptly and conduct sessions in a professional, courteous manner
• Render accurate concepts and meanings following established interpretation protocols, without omissions or additions
• Speak clearly in both Mien and English using proper pronunciation and appropriate terminology
• Maintain composure during emotionally charged or emergency calls, including 911 situations
• Follow client-specific instructions and protocols to meet expectations while working with limited-English speakers
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adapt to regional accent differences
• Remain available and punctual during scheduled work hours
• Handle extended calls and high call volumes while maintaining service standards
• Stay current with protocol and terminology across healthcare, legal, financial, and insurance sectors

What We're Looking For

• Fluency in both Mien and English, with deep understanding of associated cultural dynamics
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills for accurate interpretation
• Ability to remain neutral, objective, and detached during sensitive conversations (end-of-life discussions, medical procedures, etc.)
• Cultural competency to assess regional and accent variations
• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 18 years of age
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship (no H1-B, F-1 OPT, TN, or other non-immigrant visa sponsorship available)
• Education or work experience in language-related fields (teaching, translation, interpretation) strongly preferred
• Reading and writing proficiency in both languages highly preferred
• Ability to adapt to technology platforms and enhancements

Technical Requirements:

• Dedicated personal device: desktop, laptop, tablet (iPadOS/Android), or smartphone (iOS/Android) with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS
• High-speed internet: minimum 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms
• Quiet, secure home workspace free from background noise
• Ability to operate keyboard/mouse and remain stationary at a computer for extended periods
• Sufficient manual dexterity for typing
• Ability to lift up to 26 lbs

Note: Some calls may be highly emotional or stressful. You may need to remain on extended calls without breaks during high-volume periods.
