Energy Markets – France (CDD)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential energy technology client seeking an Energy Markets specialist for a fixed-term contract based in France. Our client is at the forefront of the energy transition, operating software infrastructure that optimizes energy asset control across European markets.

This role is critical to accelerating market expansion in France, one of Europe's most important flexibility markets. You will serve as the internal expert on French power markets, combining technical modeling expertise with commercial insight to drive strategic decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop deep expertise in French energy markets and grid dynamics, including trading mechanics, compensation structures, penalties, and cash flow systems
• Engage directly with grid operators, regulators, and market stakeholders to validate analytical hypotheses and interpret market data
• Build and optimize quantitative models covering wholesale, capacity, balancing, ancillary services, and local flexibility markets in France
• Forecast revenue potential across different asset types and market products to inform expansion priorities
• Evaluate and develop optimization strategies for battery cycling and EV charger load-shifting
• Monitor regulatory developments and contribute to shaping policy that supports flexibility market growth
• Translate complex data analysis into actionable commercial recommendations for leadership

What We're Looking For

• Strong quantitative and modeling capabilities using Python and SQL
• Deep knowledge of French electricity markets including NEBCO, Mécanisme de Capacité, Mécanisme d'Ajustement, and ancillary services
• Fluency in French and English (additional European languages are a plus)
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to distill data into commercial insights
• Comfort operating in fast-paced, evolving environments with incomplete information
• Background as a data scientist, analyst, or engineer with energy market experience
• Existing relationships with French energy regulators and grid operators (CRE, DGEC, RTE, Enedis) are highly valued but not required

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract (CDD). You will be based in France with approximately one week per month working from the client's London office to maximize collaboration.
