Head of Data & Business Intelligence (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential direct-to-consumer footwear company based in Hamburg. Our client has grown rapidly and now manages significant monthly digital advertising spend across multiple channels. They need a senior data leader to build their business intelligence function from the ground up—turning data into their most powerful decision-making tool.

This is a greenfield opportunity where you'll own the entire data domain: infrastructure, tracking, attribution, dashboards, and forecasting. You'll work directly with the founding team and have complete freedom to choose your technology stack and build your team over time.

Responsibilities

• Build a central data warehouse connecting all business-critical sources: e-commerce platform, paid advertising channels, ERP/inventory systems, fulfillment, and CRM into a single source of truth
• Own end-to-end tracking setup including server-side tracking, conversion APIs, and data quality across advertising platforms—ensuring measurement accuracy that directly impacts multi-million euro monthly spend decisions
• Develop the metrics that truly drive the business: contribution margin by product, channel, and partnership—as close to real-time as possible rather than weeks after the fact
• Build dashboards that get used daily, from executive steering boards to self-service analytics for functional teams, ensuring every important question can be answered in seconds
• Support purchasing and inventory planning, revenue forecasting, and cohort analysis with models that withstand real-world scrutiny and inform major strategic decisions
• Translate business questions into data models and data models into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Several years of data/BI experience in e-commerce or D2C environments, ideally where high advertising budgets were involved
• Proven track record building or owning modern data stacks (data warehouse, ELT pipelines, BI tools) with clear rationale for technology choices
• Deep understanding of tracking and attribution in paid social environments: server-side tracking, conversion APIs, and platform attribution limitations
• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with common BI tools; Python or comparable languages a plus
• Business-first mindset: you think in terms of contribution margin, customer acquisition cost, and inventory reach as steering metrics, not just vocabulary
• Hands-on until the details: you'll build the first pipelines and dashboards yourself before growing a team
• Excellent communication skills with non-technical stakeholders, translating unclear questions into precise data products
• Fluency in German or English
