Senior ASE Database Administrator

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential federal IT services organization seeking a Senior ASE Database Administrator. This is a critical role supporting mission-critical database infrastructure for defense and government clients across the United States.

We are looking for a highly motivated database professional who brings urgency, initiative, and sound judgment to their work. You'll be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and administering ASE and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring their availability, performance, security, and reliability in both on-premises and AWS cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Support and administer ASE and PostgreSQL database platforms, including databases hosted in AWS environments
• Handle setup, configuration, administration, tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, data manipulation, and backups of ASE and PostgreSQL infrastructure
• Work with large volumes of data moving at rapid pace
• Participate in migration efforts from SAP ASE to Amazon RDS PostgreSQL environments
• Provide client support for test and production systems as needed
• Maintain database performance by resolving production and application development problems
• Collaborate with engineering teams and IT stakeholders to develop and execute tactical and strategic architecture plans
• Identify and recommend improvements to existing ASE and PostgreSQL server configurations

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience working with PostgreSQL
• 5+ years of experience with Sybase RDBMS technology stack (ASE, REP, etc.), including systems management tools, performance tuning, database and replication server upgrades, applying patches, and disaster recovery planning
• 3+ years conducting general database administration tasks including developing PostgreSQL database objects, database server implementations, architecture and schema design, code deployments, backups, authentication principals, and performance tuning
• Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting using system logs, event logs, cluster logs, enhanced logging configurations, and system metadata catalogs
• Knowledge of virtualization and virtualized database environments
• Working knowledge of AWS cloud platform services, supporting database workloads in AWS, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts including Terraform
• Python, T-SQL, or other scripting experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Preferred:

• Experience supporting enterprise cloud migration initiatives and hybrid database environments
• Experience establishing database governance, architecture standards, and engineering best practices
• Professional certifications in AWS, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other database technologies

Pay

The target salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and other factors. Final compensation will be determined during the offer process and may vary based on work experience, education, training, skill set, clearance level, and market conditions.
