About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization serving tens of thousands of users globally. Our client operates a robust e-commerce platform handling billions in transaction volume annually. They're undertaking a significant technical modernization while maintaining their existing system, and they need a talented software engineer to own features from conception through production.

This is a remote position open to candidates based in Europe or Latin America, with a preference for London-based engineers.

Responsibilities

You will have full ownership of features across both legacy and modern systems:

  • Build a new TypeScript-based system designed to replace the existing PHP platform
  • Maintain and support the current PHP/Laravel system throughout the technical transition
  • Own features end-to-end: break down requirements, build, ship, monitor in production, and respond to incidents
  • Make technical decisions within your scope and clearly communicate trade-offs
  • Write clean, tested, production-ready code with unit and integration tests from the start
  • Participate in code reviews, providing thoughtful feedback and acting on feedback received
  • Monitor your features in production using logs, metrics, and alerts
  • Respond to dev-escalations with urgency and participate in incident response
  • Contribute to sprint planning and technical discussions with Product, Design, QA, and engineering peers
  • Share in on-call rotation (approximately one week per month after ramp-up; 15-minute response for critical issues)
  • Use AI coding tools daily as a core part of your workflow—not occasionally, but as a productivity multiplier for code generation, debugging, test writing, and code review

Senior engineers (L3-L4) will additionally mentor junior team members, lead small projects, drive incident response, and help establish team standards for AI tool usage.

What We're Looking For

Required Technical Experience:

  • Active, hands-on professional experience with TypeScript/Node.js
  • Past professional experience with PHP 7.4/8+ and Laravel
  • Hands-on experience integrating payment platforms such as Stripe and PayPal
  • Familiarity with MariaDB, Redis, AWS services (EC2, RDS, CloudWatch, SQS, S3), Docker, and CI/CD workflows

Core Competencies:

  • You take problems from requirements to production and own them there—this is not a hand-off role
  • You use AI coding tools effectively every day to accelerate your velocity while maintaining strong judgment about what you ship
  • You identify edge cases and risks during planning, not after deployment
  • You leave codebases better than you found them through refactoring, documentation, and reducing technical debt
  • You communicate clearly about technical decisions and trade-offs

Experience Levels:

  • L1: Works on well-scoped tickets with guidance; uses AI tools to learn faster
  • L2: Independently owns features with minimal implementation guidance
  • L3: Leads small projects, mentors junior engineers, improves codebase proactively
  • L4: Technical authority for a domain, drives cross-team projects, sets team AI standards
