(Senior) System Engineer (all genders) – Microsoft Infrastructure

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential IT organization operating in the public sector. Our client is seeking System Engineers at multiple seniority levels to design, implement, and maintain modern Microsoft infrastructures for critical government and public-service environments. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes projects where stability, security, and availability are paramount.

Based in Mainz, this position involves technical implementation, system administration, and participation in complex transformation and architecture projects. You'll collaborate with experienced IT specialists on infrastructure that directly supports public services.

Responsibilities

• Implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of Microsoft-based infrastructure environments
• Installation, configuration, administration, and migration of enterprise IT systems
• Analysis of technical requirements and development of appropriate infrastructure solutions
• Execution of changes, testing procedures, and technical troubleshooting
• Active participation in IT projects and ownership of technical work packages
• Optimization of existing infrastructure and support for new technology adoption
• Creation and maintenance of technical documentation, concepts, and operational procedures
• Support for system rollouts and ongoing production operations
• Coordination of technical tasks and communication with stakeholders, teams, and customers
• Ensuring quality standards, comprehensive documentation, and sustainable operations
• For senior profiles: Design and architecture of IT solutions and infrastructure frameworks

What We're Looking For

Note: Our client is hiring at three levels (Junior, Mid-Level, Senior). You don't need to meet every requirement listed—what matters is that your experience aligns with one of these career stages.

• Practical experience ranging from foundational to extensive expertise in Microsoft environments or comparable infrastructure technologies (Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, virtualization)
• Knowledge of automation and scripting, particularly PowerShell, plus experience with monitoring, backup, and high-availability concepts
• Hands-on experience with installation, configuration, administration, and operation of IT systems
• Interest in advancing modern Microsoft infrastructures and solving complex technical challenges
• Familiarity with IT service management processes, ideally ITIL
• Structured, solution-oriented work approach with the ability to handle technical tasks independently
• Strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for solving complex problems
• Experience creating technical concepts and documentation
• Excellent communication skills and team collaboration abilities
• Very good German language skills and good English proficiency
• For experienced profiles: Background in complex IT projects, architecture design, consulting, or technical project management, with the ability to translate requirements into robust technical solutions and architectures
