About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential healthcare organization seeking a Coder II to join their remote team. This is a day-shift position requiring expertise in complex surgical CPT coding, anesthesia coding, and ICD-10 classification. You'll abstract medical documentation, crosswalk surgical codes to ASA codes, and work across multiple charge capture platforms and facility EMR systems.
Our client values accuracy, efficiency, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment. This role requires strong coding fundamentals, familiarity with compliance guidelines, and the ability to meet production and quality benchmarks.
Responsibilities
- Review documentation for required elements including attestations, signatures, and dates
- Abstract and code surgical procedures from CPT and crosswalk to ASA codes
- Code complex anesthesia cases across various locations and specialties
- Apply appropriate modifiers and assign ICD-10 codes
- Abstract anesthesia times, events, and identify care team providers
- Review cases for medical direction requirements
- Meet daily production targets and maintain quarterly coding audit score requirements
- Work escalation workflows, respond to requests for additional information, and process coding rejections
- Address assigned edits and claim denials
- Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3-5 years minimum surgical coding experience
- 2+ years anesthesia coding experience
- Current CPC certification required; CANPC a plus
- Demonstrated expertise in complex surgical CPT coding and ICD-10
- Experience coding for physicians, CRNAs, CAAs, NPs, SRNAs, and residents
- Knowledge of NCCI bundling, LCD/NCD guidelines, and CMS coding requirements
- Ability to determine start/end times, care teams, and medical direction
- Experience with multiple EMR systems, documentation types, and templates (both handwritten and electronic)
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Outlook
- Ten-key proficiency
- Excellent organizational, time management, and computer skills
- Strong ability to work independently and self-motivate
- Effective written and verbal communication in English
Location: Remote within the United States (excluding California, Hawaii, and Alaska)
