We are representing a confidential public-sector organization operating critical datacenter infrastructure in Germany. Our talent team is seeking a Senior System Engineer specializing in VMware virtualization to join their enterprise operations team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the stable operation and continuous improvement of a business-critical virtualization platform with demanding requirements for availability, stability, security, and quality. You will work within a complex enterprise environment, analyzing and resolving sophisticated technical challenges while optimizing operational processes.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Operating and administering VMware vSphere environments in an enterprise setting
  • Analyzing and resolving complex technical incidents and problems
  • Implementing technical changes, capacity management, and availability planning
  • Supporting maintenance, upgrade, and migration initiatives
  • Ensuring audit-compliant and stable platform operations
  • Conducting technical reviews and quality assurance activities
  • Participating in the optimization of operational processes
  • Supporting critical technical escalations and identifying technical risks
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation
  • Contributing to knowledge base development and team knowledge transfer
  • Collaborating professionally with client stakeholders in technical coordination meetings
  • Proactively communicating risks and necessary actions to stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or comparable IT training
  • Several years of hands-on experience operating large-scale VMware enterprise environments
  • Expert-level knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and virtual infrastructure management
  • Strong skills in Windows Server environments
  • Experience in datacenter operations
  • Proven experience with incident, problem, and change management processes
  • Demonstrated expertise in system installation, administration, and migration
  • Excellent documentation capabilities
  • Knowledge of established IT service management frameworks such as ITIL
  • Very good German language skills and good English proficiency
  • Existing security clearance (SÜ2) or willingness to undergo security vetting process

Preferred Experience:

  • Veeam Backup & Recovery
  • Storage technologies
  • Microsoft Server Infrastructure
  • PowerShell automation
  • Public sector, critical infrastructure, or large enterprise environments
  • VMware certifications
  • Complex migration or transformation projects
