About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential deep-tech venture working at the intersection of advanced physics and artificial intelligence. As Principal AI & Agent Systems Engineer, you will design and build autonomous research infrastructure from the ground up. This is not prompt engineering or chatbot work—you will architect multi-agent systems for scientific reasoning, hypothesis generation, and autonomous discovery. You'll work directly with the founding team to create AI-driven platforms that ingest scientific literature, orchestrate simulations, evaluate experimental results, and accelerate breakthrough research.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement multi-agent research systems with sophisticated orchestration layers
• Build long-term memory architectures optimized for scientific reasoning and knowledge retention
• Create pipelines for scientific paper ingestion, parsing, and knowledge extraction
• Develop reasoning workflows that connect AI agents to simulation environments
• Build autonomous experiment loops with evaluation and continuous learning capabilities
• Design retrieval, planning, and orchestration systems for complex research tasks
• Integrate state-of-the-art LLMs and open-source models into production workflows
• Develop scalable infrastructure supporting iterative scientific discovery
• Explore next-generation AI architectures beyond standard token-prediction models

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Proven track record building real agent systems in production environments
• Deep experience across multiple areas: multi-agent architectures, tool use and function calling, agent orchestration, planning systems, long-term memory, knowledge graphs, autonomous research workflows, RAG architectures, and evaluation frameworks
• Production-quality Python development with strong API design and integration skills
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, containerization, and databases including vector databases
• Solid mathematical foundation in linear algebra, optimization, probability, graph theory, and dynamical systems
• Comfort working on highly technical scientific problems (physics background not required)
• Self-directed learning ability and comfort with ambiguity and unsolved problems

• Physics simulations, scientific computing, or computational physics
• High-performance computing (HPC) environments
• Reinforcement learning applications
• AI for science initiatives
• Quantum computing concepts
• Scientific publishing workflows

Work Environment

This is a remote-first position. You can work from Munich, Berlin, London, Lisbon, or another European location where you do your best work.
