Staff Backend Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building cutting-edge AI infrastructure for the financial services sector. Founded recently, they're already working with major banking and fintech clients to transform customer operations through autonomous AI agents.

This is a high-impact Staff Backend Engineer role where you'll own critical systems from architecture through production scale. You'll be building the foundational infrastructure that makes AI agents reliable and trustworthy in real-world financial applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core platform infrastructure that enables autonomous AI agents to operate reliably at scale in production environments
• Own complex systems end-to-end—from initial architectural decisions through deployment, observability, iteration, and scaling
• Develop resilient systems that gracefully handle failures, retry storms, and resource constraints with full observability built in from the start
• Take products from concept to launch to scale, making critical early architectural decisions and maintaining accountability as systems grow
• Ship frequently with multiple daily deployments, iterating in small increments while maintaining production stability
• Contribute to platform capabilities that allow rapid iteration on autonomous agent features
• Collaborate with product and operations teams to ensure technical decisions align with customer needs

What We're Looking For

• Substantial experience building production software at fast-growing companies in fintech, AI, consumer tech, or similarly high-pace, high-stakes environments
• Proven track record owning complex, high-stakes systems through their entire lifecycle—not just to merge, but through observability, iteration, and scale
• Deep technical fluency in Go (Golang) required
• Strong experience with modern backend infrastructure including PostgreSQL, Temporal, GCP, and Kubernetes
• Staff, Principal, or Distinguished level experience operating with significant scope and accountability
• Product instinct that extends beyond technical elegance—ability to think from the customer perspective and incorporate that into architectural decisions
• Genuine enthusiasm for autonomous AI as a platform shift and desire to build infrastructure that makes agents genuinely reliable
• Strong technical opinions held with humility—conviction without ego and willingness to be wrong in pursuit of the right answer
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to make sound decisions without perfect specifications
