AI Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is transforming customer operations through AI. Our client works with major banking and fintech brands, deploying specialist AI agents that handle live customer support and back-office workflows at scale. Their platform processes tens of thousands of real customer conversations every hour.

This is a build-and-ship role for an AI Software Engineer who will design, implement, and maintain production AI agents. You'll work close to real users—turning ambiguous support problems into reliable, observable systems that handle live conversations.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate AI agents in production: Design and maintain agentic systems powered by LLMs, including tool calling, multi-step reasoning, and integration with customer APIs and data sources. Own these systems end-to-end with focus on reliability, observability, and auditability.
• Translate business problems into agentic workflows: Take open-ended challenges and turn them into scoped, shippable projects.
• Build robust evaluation infrastructure: Create eval suites drawn from real-world scenarios. Develop structured evals measuring accuracy, safety, and latency tied to clear business outcomes.
• Enhance agent capabilities: Develop, evaluate, and optimize skills. Curate datasets, iterate on improvements, test changes, and ship successful approaches into production.
• Shape internal AI platform: Contribute to shared libraries, patterns, and standards for building, evaluating, and deploying agents. Help define approaches to prompting, tool orchestration, retrieval, and monitoring.
• Experiment and prototype: Keep current with NLP, agentic systems, and generative AI developments. Prototype solutions with a bias toward shipping experiments quickly.
• Analyze data: Work across customer queries, support tickets, and related data to identify automation opportunities.
• Drive technical decisions: Scope your own work, push back when framing needs adjustment, and communicate when plans need to change.

What We're Looking For

• Professional software engineering experience with meaningful focus on Machine Learning, NLP, or applied AI (this is a non-negotiable requirement for this role)
• Experience shipping products to real, live customers at meaningful scale—not just internal tools or prototypes
• Strong product mindset: ability to take vague problems, break them down from first principles, and deliver valuable first versions through fast iteration
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs in production environments, startups, or scrappy teams
• Comfort with ambiguity and confidence to work through unclear requirements rather than guessing
• Strong communication skills: explain reasoning and trade-offs behind decisions, flag blockers early, communicate clearly and often
• Pragmatic, tech-agnostic approach with good judgment about what's right for the problem
