Senior Data Scientist – Business Operations

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology company operating in the logistics sector, and we're seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join their Business Operations analytics team in London. This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Our client operates at the intersection of technology and operations, managing a complex marketplace that impacts millions of users daily. The BizOps team acts as the analytical engine of the business, turning operational and financial data into actionable intelligence that drives decision-making at the highest levels.

This is not a traditional reporting role. You'll work as a "first responder" to business performance, proactively monitoring metrics, investigating deviations, and partnering with senior stakeholders globally to answer the questions that matter most.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a rigorous, continuous view of business performance: tracking progress against goals, identifying changes, comparing to expectations, and forecasting what's next
• Own end-to-end delivery of analytical projects, from ambiguous strategic questions to rigorous, actionable answers with minimal guidance
• Build scalable analytics infrastructure including pipelines, models, dashboards, and monitoring systems that make performance visible and reliable
• Design and execute measurement strategies using A/B testing and quasi-experimental methods (synthetic control, difference-in-differences, event studies) when randomized trials aren't feasible
• Deconstruct broad, ambiguous problems into structured analytical roadmaps and identify cross-functional dependencies
• Surface performance deviations early, confidently distinguishing signal from noise to prevent escalations
• Translate complex analytical findings into clear, simple recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to the broader analytics community by improving shared practices and building data literacy across the organization

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in an analytical or data science role (data analytics, forecasting, planning, strategy analytics, or similar)
• Strong proficiency with SQL and a scripting language such as Python or R
• Experience with BI or visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or similar platforms
• Comfortable using modern AI-assisted tools while maintaining high standards of accuracy and reproducibility
• Pragmatic problem-solver who can balance analytical rigor with speed and focus effort where it matters most
• Ability to take ambiguous questions, identify underlying problems, develop hypotheses, and reach clear conclusions using data and business context
• Experience with experimentation and/or causal inference is a strong plus
• Excellent communication skills across written, verbal, and code-based formats
• Driven, agile, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Based in London with availability for a minimum of three days per week in the office
• Experience in logistics, e-commerce, marketplaces, or fast-moving consumer businesses is useful but not required
