Wastewater System Superintendent

The Opportunity

Dexterra is seeking a skilled Wastewater System Superintendent to manage the day-to-day operations of our wastewater treatment facilities in Beltsville. In this leadership role, you'll ensure regulatory compliance, maintain equipment reliability, optimize treatment processes, and mentor operations staff. You'll be responsible for system performance, safety protocols, and continuous improvement—making a measurable difference in environmental stewardship and public health.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate all wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance activities
• Supervise operations and maintenance staff; assign work and ensure adherence to safety standards
• Monitor treatment processes, equipment performance, and system efficiency metrics
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reporting requirements
• Conduct routine inspections, troubleshoot equipment failures, and coordinate repairs
• Manage chemical and resource inventory and control operational costs
• Document operations data and prepare technical reports for regulatory agencies
• Train and develop team members on procedures, safety, and best practices

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in environmental science or related field preferred
• Wastewater Treatment Plant Grade IV operator certification (or ability to obtain)
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in wastewater operations or treatment
• Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience
• Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements
• Proficiency with SCADA systems and computerized equipment
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Ability to work on-call schedules and respond to emergencies
