Field Application Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential life sciences organization seeking a Field Application Scientist to support their liquid handling and laboratory automation product portfolio. This home-based role will serve the Southwest United States, with occasional travel to the East Coast and internationally. You'll work as part of a global applications team, serving as the technical bridge between sales, marketing, and end-users in genomics, drug discovery, and structural biology laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Organize and deliver product demonstrations for liquid handling instrumentation across customer sites in the Southwest USA
• Provide applications-based training to new and existing users, both remotely and in-person
• Develop, modify, and optimize advanced liquid handling and automation protocols to meet client workflow needs
• Maintain expert-level operational knowledge of the product suite and stay current in relevant application areas (NGS, high-throughput screening, assay development, molecular biology)
• Deliver ongoing technical support to end-users and internal sales teams across multiple time zones
• Create marketing content including application notes, webinars, and conference presentations
• Attend scientific conferences and contribute to booth strategy
• Gather customer feedback for product development and software enhancement
• Maintain accurate CRM records and build lasting customer relationships
• Mentor associate-level team members as needed

What We're Looking For

• Education: MSc with 5+ years practical experience, or PhD with 2+ years practical experience in biological sciences, liquid handling, laboratory automation, or related discipline
• Technical expertise: Working knowledge of NGS methods, genomics workflows, drug discovery, or structural biology; experience with liquid handling and automation strongly preferred
• Practical experience optimizing workflows in genomics, drug discovery, or structural biology environments (academic or industry)
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
• Outstanding presentation, training, and communication skills with a professional, approachable demeanor
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across distributed teams
• Leadership capability with demonstrated mentorship experience
• Travel: Ability and willingness to travel up to 75%, including international trips
• Previous experience in field applications, customer service, teaching, or marketing is a plus
