Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer (Freelance)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking a Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer for a specialized freelance engagement in Sweden. Our client is building advanced data extraction capabilities for production applications, and we're looking for an experienced engineer who can deliver end-to-end web scraping solutions with precision and reliability.

This is a part-time remote role requiring 10–20 hours per week during active project phases. You'll work independently on complex data extraction workflows, handling dynamic web content and ensuring high-quality structured output.

Responsibilities

• Own complete data extraction workflows across complex websites, ensuring comprehensive coverage, accuracy, and reliable delivery of structured datasets
• Build and maintain custom scraping solutions alongside platform tools to accelerate data collection, validation, and task execution
• Extract data reliably from dynamic and interactive web sources, adapting to JavaScript-rendered content and evolving site structures
• Implement data quality standards through validation checks, cross-source consistency controls, and systematic verification before delivery
• Scale scraping operations for large datasets using efficient batching or parallelization techniques while maintaining stability against site changes
• Monitor extraction workflows, troubleshoot failures, and ensure consistent performance

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Minimum 5+ years in data engineering, web scraping, automation, or software development
• Strong expertise in Python web scraping libraries (BeautifulSoup, Selenium, or similar)
• Proven ability to extract data from complex HTML structures, hierarchies, archived pages, and inconsistent markup
• Experience handling dynamic content including JavaScript rendering, AJAX, and infinite scroll patterns
• Solid background in data cleaning, normalization, and validation
• Experience delivering structured datasets in formats such as CSV, JSON, and spreadsheet formats
• Demonstrated capability working with anti-bot mechanisms and dynamic site structures at scale
• English proficiency at upper-intermediate (B2) level or above

Technical Requirements:

• Practical experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent) and containerization using Docker
• Hands-on experience applying LLM frameworks to automation tasks
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
• Self-directed work ethic with ability to troubleshoot independently
• GitHub portfolio demonstrating relevant projects is a plus

Preferred Background:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related technical fields
