Position Summary
As a Library Assistant III, you'll provide essential support to our Special Collections and Area Research Center, helping faculty, students, and community members access unique archival materials, rare books, and regional historical resources. This role is central to preserving, organizing, and making discoverable the distinctive collections that define our research mission.
What You'll Do
- Process, organize, and catalog special collections materials including archives, manuscripts, rare books, and digital resources
- Assist patrons with research requests and collection access, providing reference and educational support
- Perform preservation and conservation tasks to maintain the physical and intellectual integrity of collections
- Support digitization projects and metadata creation to expand online access to regional resources
- Maintain detailed records and database entries for inventory and retrieval systems
- Contribute to public programs, exhibits, and outreach activities that showcase special collections
- Collaborate with librarians, archivists, and faculty on collection development and research support
Who We're Looking For
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills for handling fragile and valuable materials
- Experience or demonstrated interest in library science, archives, research support, or related fields
- Excellent communication abilities and genuine enthusiasm for helping researchers
- Proficiency with database and library management systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Comfort with both analog and digital formats in an evolving collections environment
