Senior Digital Design Technologist

CDM Smith is recruiting a Senior Digital Design Technologist to join our Kansas City, Wyandotte County office on a full-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to lead digital design and technology initiatives for meaningful projects while working on a team dedicated to professional development and innovative solutions.

Position Summary

As a Senior Digital Design Technologist, you'll combine deep design expertise with hands-on technical knowledge to drive digital product quality and innovation. In this position, you'll translate complex requirements into elegant, user-centered digital experiences, shepherd projects through all phases—discovery, design, development, and delivery—and establish best practices across your team. You'll serve as a strategic leader while maintaining a strong connection to the craft of design.

What You'll Do

• Lead digital design and technology strategy across assigned project portfolios
• Design digital products and user experiences that align with business goals and user needs
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners including product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders
• Build and maintain design systems and digital standards for consistency and scalability
• Guide and mentor junior designers on design methodology, tools, and technical concepts
• Conduct user research, testing, and validation to inform design decisions and drive improvements
• Stay current with digital design best practices, emerging technologies, and industry standards

What We're Looking For

• Senior-level background in digital design, product design, UX/UI, or equivalent discipline
• Demonstrated expertise with professional design tools, prototyping software, and digital workflows
• Working knowledge of web technologies, front-end concepts, and development environments
• Proven experience leading design initiatives, managing teams, and owning multiple concurrent workstreams
• Strong presentation and communication abilities across technical and non-technical audiences
• Portfolio or case studies showcasing digital design work and technical problem-solving
• Experience developing, scaling, or contributing to design systems
