North Wasco County School District 21 is hiring a full-time Special Ed Bus Aide-Substitute to support students with exceptional needs during daily school transportation in The Dalles and throughout Wasco County. About the Role
As a Special Education Bus Aide-Substitute in our Transportation department, you'll play a vital role in ensuring safe, supportive school bus experiences for students with special needs. This full-time substitute position serves North Wasco County School District 21's commitment to individualized student care during transit, filling transportation staffing needs across our route system.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Monitor and assist students with special needs during boarding, transit, and exiting the bus
- Support students with physical mobility, communication, and behavioral needs as trained
- Maintain a safe, supportive environment on the bus and enforce transportation safety protocols
- Communicate with bus drivers, special education staff, and families about student progress and safety concerns
- Document student behavior or incidents and report to the special education team
- Follow all emergency procedures and safety requirements for student transportation
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to pass a complete background check through the Oregon Department of Education, including fingerprinting
- Physical capability to assist and support students as needed
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, compassion, and genuine commitment to student safety and welfare
- Flexibility to work across multiple routes and substitute schedules
