What This Role Involves
The Director of Legal Services is a leadership position responsible for providing strategic legal guidance and oversight to SGA Youth & Family Services. In this role, you'll develop and implement legal strategies that align with our organizational values and support our work in vulnerable communities. You'll serve as the primary legal advisor to our executive leadership team, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations while protecting our clients' and organization's interests. This position requires sound judgment, deep expertise in nonprofit and social services law, and a commitment to advancing our mission through effective legal advocacy and counsel.
What You'll Do
- Oversee all legal matters affecting SGA Youth & Family Services, including contract review, policy development, and regulatory compliance
- Advise leadership on legal issues related to client services, employment matters, and organizational governance
- Manage legal relationships with outside counsel and coordinate legal resources as needed
- Ensure the organization meets all state and federal legal requirements for nonprofit operations and social services delivery
- Develop and maintain legal documentation, policies, and procedures that support our work in Chicago's communities
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure legal and ethical service delivery aligned with our Cycle of Opportunity methodology
Who We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and current admission to the Illinois bar
- Significant experience in nonprofit law, social services law, or related practice areas
- Strong leadership and management capabilities
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and underserved communities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a mission-driven environment
