About the Role

This Grade 1 Teacher position offers the opportunity to lead engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction across core subjects while fostering a positive, inclusive classroom culture. As part of our K-2 learning community at Memorial School, you'll work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistency, continuity, and strong academic and social-emotional outcomes for every child.

What You'll Do

• Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned lessons in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies tailored to the needs and interests of first-grade learners
• Implement positive behavioral supports and evidence-based interventions to create a safe, respectful, and emotionally supportive classroom environment
• Assess student progress regularly, analyze data, and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs and support each child's growth
• Build strong partnerships with families through regular communication, conferences, and collaboration on student learning goals
• Work alongside specialists, special educators, and colleagues to provide comprehensive support and access to school and community resources
• Create organized, engaging learning spaces that encourage exploration, curiosity, and independence

What We're Looking For

• Valid Maine teaching certification in elementary education (or eligibility to obtain certification)
• Proven experience and effectiveness teaching Grade 1 or early primary grades
• Deep knowledge of positive behavioral supports, trauma-informed teaching practices, and inclusive instructional strategies
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
• Commitment to ongoing professional learning and continuous improvement in your craft
