Associate Principal Scientist, Clinical Research

Merck is seeking an Associate Principal Scientist, Clinical Research to lead translational medicine initiatives in Rahway, Union County. In this full-time role, you'll bridge basic science discovery and clinical practice, advancing promising compounds from preclinical development toward their first evaluation in human subjects.

As an Associate Principal Scientist in Clinical Research, you'll work at the intersection of laboratory discovery and early-stage human clinical development. This position shapes clinical programs that transform scientific innovation into therapeutic options for patients.

What You'll Do

• Develop and execute clinical development strategies for investigational compounds, from initial human studies through proof-of-concept milestones
• Collaborate with Discovery Sciences teams to ensure successful transition of promising candidates into human evaluation
• Design clinical pharmacology studies and oversee first-in-human trial protocols
• Partner with Late-Stage Clinical Research to coordinate advancement of successful programs toward pivotal development
• Build clinical evidence packages supporting regulatory submissions and strategic program decisions
• Lead cross-functional scientific discussions and contribute to clinical research literature

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) with substantial experience in clinical research, clinical pharmacology, or translational medicine
• Proven ability to design and execute early-phase human clinical studies
• Strong knowledge of regulatory pathways and clinical development strategy
• Excellent scientific communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Demonstrated leadership managing complex, multidisciplinary research programs
