Part-Time Lab Technician

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking a Part-Time Lab Technician to join its Life Sciences team on the Evansville, Vanderburgh County campus.

About the Role

This in‑person position supports laboratory instruction by ensuring that all materials, equipment, and workspaces are ready for each class session. The technician collaborates closely with faculty to maintain a safe, organized environment that enables effective hands‑on learning for students pursuing science pathways.

What You'll Do

• Set up lab stations by arranging equipment, anatomical models, reagents, and consumables according to instructor specifications.

• Prepare reagents, solutions, and sample materials ahead of scheduled experiments.

• Break down workstations after each session, cleaning surfaces, glassware, and reusable tools.

• Manage inventory levels, reorder supplies, and track usage to prevent shortages.

• Assist science instructors with demonstrations and answer basic student procedural questions.

• Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper disposal of hazardous waste and maintenance of safety data sheets.

• Document any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns and report them to the appropriate supervisor.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent; coursework or experience in biology, chemistry, or a related technical field is preferred.

• Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques such as measuring, mixing, and cleaning glassware.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.

• Good organizational skills for tracking supplies and maintaining orderly workspaces.

• Effective communication abilities for interacting with faculty and students.

• Reliability and punctuality, as labs must be ready at specific class times.

• Willingness to learn campus‑specific procedures and safety requirements.
