EMS is hiring a full-time Community Based Mental Health Counselor in Chesterfield, Chesterfield County, to deliver intensive in-home services across the greater Richmond area. If you're a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) registered with Virginia's Board of Counseling, this is your opportunity to provide direct, evidence-based mental health support where clients live and work.

About the Role

As a Community Based Mental Health Counselor, you'll provide intensive in-home and community-based counseling and mental health skill-building services to individuals and families throughout the service area—including the city of Richmond, Henrico County, Chesterfield County, Petersburg, Hanover, and surrounding communities. This position focuses on helping clients build resilience, develop practical coping skills, and achieve stability within their own environments.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver intensive in-home mental health counseling and therapeutic interventions to clients and families
  • Assess client needs and develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans
  • Provide mental health skill-building services including coping strategies and emotion regulation
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation and communicate progress with care teams
  • Coordinate care with case managers, psychiatrists, and other mental health providers
  • Support clients' recovery, stability, and integration within their communities

  • Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) registration with Virginia's Board of Counseling
  • Strong interpersonal and clinical communication skills
  • Experience with community-based mental health services or demonstrated commitment to the field
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the service area
  • Ability to work independently and maintain clinical standards in home and community settings
  • Cultural competence and genuine dedication to client success and recovery
