Community Based Mental Health Counselor (QMHP)

EMS of Virginia is hiring a full-time Community Based Mental Health Counselor (QMHP) to deliver intensive therapeutic services and crisis intervention across the greater Richmond area, including North Chesterfield, Henrico, Petersburg, Hanover, and surrounding communities. About the Role

As a QMHP with EMS, you'll deliver evidence-based mental health counseling and skill-building in home and community settings. This position supports individuals navigating acute mental health challenges, chronic conditions, and life transitions through accessible, client-centered care. You'll travel throughout the service area, meeting people in their natural environments to strengthen coping skills, reduce crisis frequency, and support recovery goals.

What You'll Do

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
• Provide individual and family counseling using evidence-based therapeutic approaches
• Deliver mobile crisis response and stabilization services for individuals in acute distress
• Teach mental health, social, and daily living skills to build client independence
• Coordinate care with treatment teams, physicians, and community resources
• Complete clinical documentation, progress notes, and required reporting
• Maintain professional licensure and stay current with clinical standards

What We're Looking For

• Current QMHP certification or licensure in Virginia (LPPC, LCSW, clinical counselor, or equivalent)
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for community-based visits
• Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and provide immediate stabilization support
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Commitment to client autonomy, recovery, and community integration
• Professional flexibility to work across diverse populations and service settings
