CAMBA is a New York City community organization founded in 1960. This role sits at its Rising Up Men’s Shelter in Brooklyn, supporting housing-focused work with shelter residents rather than a corporate office track.

Camba seeks a full-time Housing Specialist to join the Rising Up Men's Shelter team in Brooklyn, New York City. You'll help homeless and housing-insecure men navigate pathways to stable shelter and permanent housing, providing the supportive case management and advocacy that transforms lives.

About the Role

In this position, you'll work directly with men experiencing housing crises, combining compassionate direct support with practical problem-solving to help clients move from emergency shelter into stability. You'll be part of a mission-driven team committed to building an inclusive New York City where everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct client intake and comprehensive assessments to identify housing barriers, service needs, and individual strengths
  • Provide ongoing case management and individualized support as clients work toward housing stability
  • Connect clients with housing options, coordinate placements, and facilitate access to rental assistance and shelter programs
  • Coordinate referrals to complementary services including job training, mental health support, and emergency aid
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with housing providers, social service agencies, and community partners
  • Maintain accurate documentation, track client progress, and ensure compliance with program requirements
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to address barriers and advance their path to housing security

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience supporting homeless or housing-insecure populations, or equivalent lived experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and engage people in crisis
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail
  • Genuine commitment to the dignity, autonomy, and self-determination of people experiencing homelessness
  • Ability to work effectively across teams, departments, and community organizations
  • Resilience, flexibility, and compassion in a dynamic, sometimes challenging environment
  • Proficiency with standard office software and openness to learning agency-specific systems

About Camba
