Join Harris County Attorney's Office as a Legal Investigator with the Investigations Division, working from our Crestwood location in Houston to serve Harris County's Children's Protective Services Division. This full-time position offers the opportunity to conduct critical investigations and provide essential support to legal proceedings protecting children and families in our community.
About the Role
The Investigations Division relies on skilled legal investigators to gather evidence, conduct interviews, and build thorough investigative records that support the Harris County Attorney's legal work. As a Legal Investigator, you'll be at the center of cases involving children's protective services, working directly with attorneys and case teams to ensure investigations meet the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive investigations related to child protective services cases and legal matters handled by the Harris County Attorney's Office
- Interview witnesses, victims, and involved parties; document statements and gather supporting evidence
- Collect, preserve, and manage evidence according to legal and procedural standards
- Prepare detailed investigative reports and documentation for attorney review and legal proceedings
- Coordinate with law enforcement, social services, and legal teams to support case development
- Maintain meticulous records and follow all evidentiary protocols required in child services cases
- Testify or provide investigative support as needed in legal proceedings
What We're Looking For
- Valid Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Master Peace Officer Proficiency Certification
- Licensed peace officer status as defined under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 2.12
- Demonstrated experience conducting investigations and gathering evidence
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and complex cases professionally
- Detail-oriented approach to documentation and record-keeping
- Commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and upholding legal standards
