About the Role
As a Secondary Special Education Teacher at Hammond Academy of Science and Technology, you will work directly with students in grades 6 through 12 who have diverse learning needs. What You'll Do
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's strengths and learning goals
- Provide direct instruction using evidence-based strategies for students with learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students access appropriate accommodations and modifications in mainstream classes
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust interventions to support continued growth
- Create inclusive, supportive classroom environments where secondary students feel engaged and motivated
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of student progress and actively participate in IEP meetings with families and colleagues
What We're Looking For
- State certification or licensure in special education for secondary grades (6–12)
- Bachelor's degree in special education or a related field
- Experience working with students who have learning disabilities (LD) and emotional/behavioral differences (ED)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with teachers, families, and support staff
- Dedication to fostering academic achievement and social-emotional growth in adolescents
- Knowledge of special education compliance, IEP processes, and instructional differentiation
