About the Role

As an Employment Training Specialist at YAI, you'll deliver personalized job coaching and vocational training to help people with I/DD build career paths and employment independence. This full-time position is based in New York City and centers on real-world skill building, employer partnerships, and long-term employment success.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct vocational assessments and identify job placement opportunities aligned with each client's strengths and career preferences
  • Provide on-site job coaching and hands-on training, teaching workplace skills, task performance, and professional behavior expectations
  • Partner directly with employers to customize job tasks, support workplace integration, and address performance concerns
  • Develop individualized employment plans and track client progress toward sustainable career goals
  • Communicate regularly with clients, families, coworkers, and supervisors to ensure successful workplace relationships and job retention
  • Problem-solve workplace challenges and provide adaptive coaching to help clients maintain long-term employment
  • Maintain detailed training records and document employment outcomes and client achievements

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or working with people with intellectual, developmental, or other disabilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build trust and establish rapport
  • Patient, empathetic mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel throughout New York City
  • Ability to work independently and maintain thorough, accurate documentation
  • Commitment to person-centered, disability-affirming employment support
