About the Role

As Assistant Director, you'll play a key role in developing and administering field education experiences and special programming that connect classroom learning to real-world practice. Working within the Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology, and Social Work department at Connecticut's premier public liberal arts university, you'll support both faculty and students in building meaningful professional pathways.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate field placement arrangements, including site identification, student matching, and ongoing liaison with partner organizations
  • Support experiential learning initiatives that integrate academic theory with professional practice
  • Advise students on field education opportunities, professional development, and career readiness
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and assess field-based coursework and learning outcomes
  • Oversee administrative operations for special programs, including scheduling, documentation, and record-keeping
  • Maintain relationships with community partners and field sites to ensure quality placements
  • Provide guidance on professional standards, ethics, and fieldwork expectations within the disciplines served

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree in social work, sociology, anthropology, or related field preferred
  • Experience coordinating experiential education, internships, field placements, or similar programs
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, faculty, and community partners
