The Perry Group: Site Construction Manager 1 (Substation – 100% Field)

CDM Smith, through its subsidiary The Perry Group, Ltd., is seeking a full-time Site Construction Manager 1 — Substation to join its field operations team based in Wilmington, New Hanover County, NC. This is a 100% field-based position supporting substation construction activities for a firm recognized for delivering integrated design-build and construction management solutions.

About the Role

As a Site Construction Manager 1 specializing in substations, you will be the on-the-ground lead responsible for day-to-day construction execution at active field sites. You'll work within a multidisciplinary team environment, coordinating all site activities to keep projects on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards and safety regulations.

What You'll Do

• Provide direct oversight of substation construction operations from mobilization through project closeout
• Coordinate and manage subcontractors, field crews, and equipment resources on-site
• Enforce site safety plans in accordance with OSHA regulations and company safety protocols
• Conduct quality control inspections and verify that work conforms to drawings, specifications, and applicable codes
• Track construction progress, identify schedule risks, and communicate proactively with project management
• Review and interpret technical drawings, one-line diagrams, and project specifications
• Maintain accurate field documentation including daily logs, RFIs, submittals, and inspection records
• Coordinate closely with engineering and design teams to resolve field conditions and constructability issues
• Support plant betterment, infrastructure improvement, and specialty construction activities as project needs evolve

What We're Looking For

• Experience in electrical utility or substation construction, commissioning, or field supervision
• Solid understanding of substation equipment, grounding systems, and high-voltage construction practices
• Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractor performance and multi-discipline field crews
• Familiarity with OSHA construction safety standards and utility industry safety requirements
• Proficiency reading construction drawings, electrical schematics, and project specifications
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and stakeholder coordination
• Willingness and ability to work 100% in the field at the Wilmington, NC project site
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field — or equivalent field experience
