Coast Medical Service is hiring a full-time travel nurse RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Portland, Fremont County. This 6-week assignment offers experienced registered nurses the opportunity to deliver specialized acute care in a dynamic healthcare setting while maintaining professional flexibility.

What This Role Involves

As a travel registered nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, you'll provide specialized nursing care to patients transitioning between intensive care and general medical-surgical floors. This role combines the clinical complexity of acute care with the adaptability required in a patient-centered Progressive Care Unit environment. Your nursing assessment, critical thinking, and intervention skills are essential in supporting patient recovery and transitions across care levels.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage patients with moderate to high acuity care needs, including post-operative recovery and patients requiring continuous telemetry
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, administer medications, and execute physician-ordered care plans with precision
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure coordinated, evidence-based patient care
  • Document nursing interventions and patient progress accurately in electronic health record systems
  • Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge care instructions
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and advocate for patient safety and comfort throughout each shift

Requirements

  • Current, active RN licensure in Oregon
  • Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience; PCU, ICU, or acute care background strongly preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and standard nursing equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Flexibility to adapt to new healthcare environments quickly
