What This Role Involves
As a travel registered nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, you'll provide specialized nursing care to patients transitioning between intensive care and general medical-surgical floors. This role combines the clinical complexity of acute care with the adaptability required in a patient-centered Progressive Care Unit environment. Your nursing assessment, critical thinking, and intervention skills are essential in supporting patient recovery and transitions across care levels.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage patients with moderate to high acuity care needs, including post-operative recovery and patients requiring continuous telemetry
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, administer medications, and execute physician-ordered care plans with precision
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure coordinated, evidence-based patient care
- Document nursing interventions and patient progress accurately in electronic health record systems
- Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge care instructions
- Respond promptly to patient needs and advocate for patient safety and comfort throughout each shift
Requirements
- Current, active RN licensure in Oregon
- Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience; PCU, ICU, or acute care background strongly preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities
- Proficiency with electronic health records and standard nursing equipment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, 36 hours per week
- Flexibility to adapt to new healthcare environments quickly
