About the Role
NuWest Travel Nursing is actively recruiting an experienced Registered Nurse to fill a Labor and Delivery opening in South Des Moines. This full-time position features a consistent schedule of three 12-hour day shifts per week (3x12), providing the professional engagement and work-life balance that travel nurses value.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and early postpartum periods
- Monitor maternal and fetal vital signs and respond to clinical changes with sound judgment
- Coordinate with obstetricians, midwives, and care team members to optimize patient outcomes
- Educate families about the labor and delivery process and postpartum expectations
- Maintain thorough, accurate medical documentation in the facility's electronic health system
- Support the initiation of breastfeeding and postpartum recovery
- Quickly acclimate to new hospital protocols and clinical environments
What We're Looking For
- Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of Iowa
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent, direct Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and interprofessional collaboration skills
- Adaptability and professional approach to changing clinical demands
- BLS certification; ACLS and PALS highly preferred
- Genuine commitment to quality, patient-centered care
