Role Overview
As Technical Lead – State Estimation, you'll guide the design, implementation, and optimization of algorithms and systems that estimate vehicle state from multi-sensor data. You'll bridge engineering leadership and hands-on technical work, setting direction for a critical subsystem while contributing directly to the codebase. Your work will ensure robust, real-time state estimation that enables safe autonomous operation across varied environments and conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee the development of state estimation pipelines, including sensor fusion, filtering algorithms, and sensor-to-world transformations
- Lead a team of engineers in architecting, building, and maintaining state estimation software
- Evaluate and integrate sensor technologies, balancing performance, cost, and reliability
- Establish best practices for algorithm validation, testing, and deployment
- Collaborate with perception, planning, and control teams to ensure state estimates meet system requirements
- Own technical roadmap decisions for improving accuracy, latency, and robustness
Who We're Looking For
- Deep expertise in state estimation, sensor fusion, or related fields (Kalman filters, particle filters, probabilistic methods)
- Strong track record leading technical teams and mentoring engineers
- Proficiency in C++ and Python for production systems
- Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, or similar safety-critical applications
- Solid understanding of linear algebra, probability, and signal processing
- Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for cross-functional stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or equivalent professional experience
